Winter—the season of cozy sweaters, hot toddies, and... painfully dry air. For those of us living in colder, drier climates, I see you! As someone who calls Calgary home, I can sympathize. The snow sparkles, the air bites, and the dryness can sometimes be downright unforgiving. These dry conditions don’t just take a toll on your skin—they can also wreak havoc on your hair extensions.
Recently, I installed a fresh set of MANESTORY Remy extensions and couldn’t wait to dye them to my signature auburn shade. As we know, bleach is a must for lifting dark hair to a brighter colour—but it’s also incredibly drying, stripping away natural pigments and moisture. My stylist nailed the warm reddish brown with honey highlights that I love, but once the cold, dry air hit my newly coloured extensions, the moisture vanished. The result? Extensions so parched—I swear—I heard them crunch.
But there was no need to panic. I know Remy extensions are built to withstand more wear and tear than most. So, without hesitation, I turned to my tried-and-true method for rehydrating my extensions.
If you’re facing the same winter woes, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. Kick back, relax, and get ready to bookmark these go-to tips to keep your hair extensions hydrated this winter.
Pamper with a Deep Conditioning Mask
When my extensions need extra love, I treat them to a silicone-based deep conditioning mask. Using it twice a month will help hydrate and smooth your strands. The silicone forms a protective barrier, sealing in moisture and giving your extensions a glossy, just-installed look. For an added boost of shine, mix in Adore Semi-Permanent Hair Color in Crystal Clear with your mask—it’s my go-to trick for an extra touch of brilliance.

Don’t Skip the Leave-In Conditioner
Leave-in conditioner is like a winter survival kit in itself. Apply it sparingly to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair to lock in moisture and shield against the drying effects of cold air. Trust me—it’s a game-changer. I use a misting spray to generously wet my hair before applying leave-in conditioner throughout the week.

Incorporate a Nightly Oiling Routine
Winter calls for extra hydration, and your extensions will love a nightly oiling routine. Before bed, apply a nourishing oil to the ends of your extensions, working upward to just below the application points. Not only does this keep your hair soft, it also protects against the friction caused by tossing and turning throughout the night.
Add a Filter to Your Shower Head
Pair a filtered shower head with your deep-conditioning routine for an even greater boost of hydration during winter months. Your hair and skin will thank you! Filtered shower heads help remove impurities from water, such as chlorine, heavy metals, and other harsh chemicals that can strip moisture from your hair and skin.

Choose Beanies with Satin or Silk Linings
I know—for most, beanies are already a winter staple. But have you tried beanies lined with silk or satin? These smooth materials reduce friction and keep your strands sleek and damage-free.
Because Your Extensions Deserve TLC

Remember, your extensions are an investment—treat them with the care they deserve.
